Illustration BIO

100% BIO is a series of illustrations I made for Instagram, in which I mix art, gemology and nature. An aesthetic game between reality and fiction in which the stone is always the protagonist. Each stone is presented in a slightly original way, sometimes with movement or transformed into a mountain, for example. Faceted or not, is always accompanied by an animal that looks like it and interacts with it. All the illustrations in this series were created entirely by hand using gouache. They reflect the freedom of my mind and imagination. Come closer and you'll see the little details, my personal touch is imprinted.

Why is this series called 100% Organic?
This means that the stones and animals are 100% natural. Gemology has enabled me to appreciate the beauty of a natural stone and give it its true value. A fine or precious natural stone can have special characteristics that give clues to its composition, origin or provenance. Above all, they can tell us stories.

Why are an animal and a stone the same color?
A kind of symbiosis between the stone and the animal. You could say that the animal takes on the color and attributes of the stone and vice versa.

Why is the stone bigger than the animal?
I've used magical surrealism, so the stone is always bigger than the animal, even if in reality this would sometimes be impossible. Another reason was that having a larger size allows me to better represent the transparencies, inclusions or other characteristics that are particular to each stone and to observe them you just have to zoom in on the photo. So an illustrator can admire the general concept of the work and a gemmologist could know if the stone that has been drawn is really natural and where it comes from.
